Real Madrid have been linked with quite a few players from Chelsea in recent times. It is believed that Reece James is near the top of their wishlist when it comes to signing a right-back in the future. On the other hand, rumours have suggested that Ian Maatsen is being viewed as a potential alternative to Alphonso Davies.

One Chelsea player that Real Madrid did sign this summer is Kepa Arrizabalaga. A move was surely not in the club’s original plans but when Thibaut Courtois suffered a potentially season-ending ACL injury, they needed to bring in another goalkeeper.

Kepa has come in on a season-long loan from Chelsea and has been placed as the starter between the posts. And the Spaniard has made no secret that he would want to remain at Real Madrid beyond this season.

One would not expect Kepa to be the number one once Courtois is fit again. So, it remains to be seen whether Real Madrid make a move or not. Chelsea do seem open to the prospect of him leaving permanently.

As reported by Defensa Central (via The Hard Tackle), Chelsea are prepared to let Kepa leave permanently for a transfer fee of around €20 million to €25 million. The player is keen to join Real Madrid on a permanent basis next summer.

It would be interesting to see if Real Madrid are ready to shell out that kind of a fee for someone who would most likely be a backup option once Courtois is back. Also, at 28 years of age, Kepa can no longer be considered a future prospect either.

Thus, it is difficult to see Kepa being at Santiago Bernabeu come next season. A lot will depend on his performance while on loan.
