It is no secret that Real Madrid could do with another right-back at this point in time. They do not appear to be the strongest in that area of the pitch. Dani Carvajal is a club legend and has played a key role in all their successes over the past decade or so. But his recent performances have raised quite a few eyebrows and many believe that he is no longer good enough to be a starter for Los Blancos.
On the other hand, they do not have any genuine back-up in that position either. Neither Lucas Vazquez nor Nacho Fernandez is a natural right-back. And both of them are past 30 years of age as well.
Unsurprisingly, Real Madrid have been linked with a few right-backs in recent times. Names like Joao Cancelo, Juan Foyth and Davide Calabria have done the rounds of the rumour mill. But Reece James is believed to be the one Los Blancos rate the most highly.
As reported by SPORT, Chelsea have no intention of transferring James. Although they could negotiate with Real Madrid for a good offer. The Englishman is believed to be rated at a transfer value of around €65 million, a figure that Los Blancos would not reach, but they could offer €40 million in the next summer window.
Chelsea make €65m Reece James decision amid Real Madrid links
It is unlikely that Chelsea would be willing to let James go for that kind of a figure. He is one of the few players they have who has world-class potential.
On his day, James can be the best right-back in the world. He has struggled to remain fit for any consistent length of time though, spending several spells on the sidelines.
So, Real Madrid must be careful before making any move for James. His talent is unquestionable but the last thing they need is another player struggling with injury problems.
