Jude Bellingham earns comparison to Real Madrid icon

It has only been a few months since Jude Bellingham joined Real Madrid. It is hard to remember the last time a player made this much of an impact upon arrival though. The 20-year-old has put Los Blancos on his back at times and guided them to victory when all hope seemed lost. In his first four games in the Royal White jersey, he has scored five times.

His goalscoring ability has been especially important to the club right now. Karim Benzema left at the end of last season and Vinicius picked up an injury recently, which has put him on the sidelines for a while. In their absence, it was hard to see another reliable source of goals but Bellingham has stepped.

It is important to remember that Bellingham was not a prolific goalscorer at Borussia Dortmund but had certainly started to add that aspect to his game towards the end of his run there. And it has been on full show at Real Madrid.

It is not just his goals that Bellingham special though. The Bellingham seems to be good to great in almost any aspect you can think of. He is a complete midfielder at 20 years of age and is already earning comparisons to a certain Zinedine Zidane.

As reported by GOAL, Graeme Souness wrote in a Daily Mail column:

"“I bestow the description ‘great player’ very rarely and you will know very well by now that when it comes to midfielders, I apply a particularly fierce critique.“But I say without a moment’s hesitation that Jude Bellingham can be in that bracket. He has the physical attributes and technical ability of Zinedine Zidane — for me, one of the greatest players to have graced Real Madrid’s midfield — but only time will tell if he reaches those heights. His potential seems limitless.”"

He further went on to add about Bellingham’s game:

"“There are many dimensions to his game. He’s a ground-coverer. He has fantastic technique. He has a wise football head on young shoulders, with years of experience yet to accrue. He has that physique. But it’s the capacity to see three or four steps ahead, something that only the best players have, which is special. He has all the attributes to become one of the game’s greats.”"

It is believed that Zidane is one of Bellingham’s heroes. In fact, the number 5 shirt that he wears at Real Madrid was once worn by the French icon.

It remains to be seen how Bellingham’s career pans out. It is a bit too early to make those lofty comparisons and unfair to put those sorts of expectations on the shoulders of a 20-year-old.
