PSG and Real Madrid have been interlinked for the past several summer transfer windows, largely thanks to Kylian Mbappe. The Frenchman has been constantly linked with a move to Santiago Bernabeu for years now and yet, it has never materialised. Those rumours are not expected to go away anytime soon either with less than a year left on his current deal.
Mbappe is yet to sign a contract extension with PSG and it is very possible that he could leave as a free agent next summer. If he did, it would be a major blow for the Ligue 1 champions.
They would be losing their best player for nothing. And they would surely need to strengthen the squad. As things stand, the team already seem to have taken several steps back with Lionel Messi, Neymar and Marco Verratti leaving over the summer.
It would be interesting to see how the club strengthened next summer in the instance that Mbappe did indeed leave as a free agent. And they seem to have a long-time Real Madrid target in their sights.
PSG want to sign long-time Real Madrid transfer target
As reported by Fichajes, Luis Enrique would have the name of Rayan Cherki written down with an aim to reinforce his squad for the 2024/2025 season. He could even be chosen as the key piece to cover the possible goodbye of Mbappe.
Cherki is considered one of the biggest young talents in French football. In fact, he has been on the radar of Real Madrid for years, since Zinedine Zidane was the manager of the club.
It was just last month that Cherki turned 20 years of age and the Lyon youngster still has a lot to learn. But if he develops according to expectations, he could be one of the best players of his generation.
