Once again this season, injuries have been Real Madrid’s number one problem. It was the same story in the previous campaign as well. In fact, the issues seem to be worse this time around with Thibaut Courtois and Eder Militao certain to miss the majority of the season. There are several others out on the sidelines with medium-term injuries.

One player who is yet to play a single minute of football this season is Ferland Mendy. The Frenchman got injured in the pre-season El Clasico and has been out since.

Injuries have been a major problem for Mendy for the past couple of seasons. His future at the club is in doubt right now, with them being linked with a potential move for Alphonso Davies next summer.

Real Madrid have brought in a new left-back this summer in Fran Garcia, who has been starting games on a regular basis. But he has not completely convinced that he is the man the club can put their faith in for the entirety of the season and it would be nice to have Mendy back to compete for the first-team spot.

There is some good news when it comes to Mendy. It looks like he could be back on the pitch soon. As reported by Football Espana, Carlo Ancelotti said in his press conference:

"“I think Ferland Mendy will be in the squad for Wednesday’s game vs Union Berlin.”"

Mendy returning to the squad has to be considered as a boost for Real Madrid. Owing to his recent history of injuries, many people tend to forget how important he was to this team just a couple of years ago.

Mendy is one of the best left-backs in the world when it comes to the defensive side of things and someone like him can be especially important in the big games. There has been a lot of speculation about his future lately, but if the Frenchman can prove himself this season, he might still have a place at Santiago Bernabeu.
