Real Madrid have no shortage of quality players in their squad. Where they do find themselves lacking though is depth. And there are also a couple of areas on the pitch, where they need to find long-term solutions. One of them is right-back, with Dani Carvajal clearly no longer the player he was at the peak of his career.

The club do not have any real cover for Carvajal though. So expect to see him remain the starter for this season at the very least.

There has been speculation that signing a new right-back is near the top of Real Madrid’s wishlist for next summer. And one player they have been constantly linked with for some time now is Reece James of Chelsea. Unfortunately, there seems to be some bad news for them in that regard.

As reported by FootballTransfers, Manchester City are still interested in James, despite the fact that Kyle Walker signed a new contract with the club recently. Talks have been held between the two Premier League clubs regarding the future of the 23-year-old.

James was recently announced as the captain of Chelsea and signed a new long-term deal with the club not too long ago. But as Chelsea continue to struggle, one has to wonder how long he would want to remain at his boyhood club if things don’t improve.

James has the potential to be the best right-back in the world. But at the same time, he has struggled with constant injury problems as well, something that Real Madrid must take into consideration before making any move for the Chelsea right-back.

If James can put his injury problems behind him though, signing him would be a no-brainer. The Englishman has everything that you could ask for in a right-back and more.
