Real Madrid veteran will miss derby against Atletico
Injury problems just refuse to leave Real Madrid alone at this point. They have several key players out on the sidelines. Eder Militao and Thibaut Courtois are set to miss the majority of the season if not all of it after tearing their ACLs. Vinicius Jr has been out of action since last month. We are yet to see Arda Guler in action in the Royal White jersey due to a problem he picked up in pre-season and had to undergo surgery as a result.
There have been several other issues here and there. And now, it looks like Real Madrid are set to be without one of their most experienced players when they travel to the Metropolitano Stadium to take on Atletico Madrid.
As reported by MARCA, Dani Carvajal will be absent from the derby against Atletico Madrid this Sunday. The Spanish right-back has not fully recovered from the muscle injury he suffered a few days ago.
Carvajal missed Real Madrid’s Champions League group stage opener against Union Berlin in midweek as well. The problem is, the club do not have much cover in that area of the pitch.

Against Union Berlin, Lucas Vazquez played at right-back. And one would expect that to be the case against Atletico Madrid as well. Of course, Nacho is another player capable of playing in that position.
The situation is far from ideal. Of course, Carvajal is no longer the player that he was in his prime and there have been calls for the club to find a long-term replacement for him as soon as possible.
At the same time, he remains a regular starter for Real Madrid and his experience could come in handy in games of this magnitude. Neither Vazquez nor Nacho is a genuine option at right-back.
