Real Madrid handed last-minute Vinicius Junior problem

It had looked like things were turning for the better for Real Madrid, as Vinicius Jr had managed to return to fitness in time to face Atletico Madrid. The Brazilian winger was initially expected to miss the derby but was somewhat surprisingly included in the squad. But now, there is another twist in the tale.

Vinicius has had to be dropped from the squad once again. And he will not be taking part in the Madrid Derby at the Metropolitano Stadium.

As tweeted out by Real Madrid’s official account, Vinicius has dropped out of the matchday squad to face Atletico Madrid.

This comes as unexpected after fans were looking forward to seeing the Brazilian superstar back on the pitch. He has been out of action since suffering an injury against Celta Vigo last month.

The only positive news is that Vinicius has not reinjured himself. Instead, as reported by Cadena SER, he is dealing with a gastrointestinal problem.

One can only hope that Vinicius recovers from the issue as soon as possible. We wish him the best of luck in his recovery.

There were already doubts as to how much of a role Vinicius would have played against Atletico Madrid, having not featured since last month. But just having a player of that calibre on the bench is also a big boost for Carlo Ancelotti and a worry for Diego Simeone.

Unfortunately, Vinicius will not be available for the Madrid Derby. Thus, one can expect the partnership of Rodrygo and Joselu to start once again.

Real Madrid will go into this match as the more in-form of the two teams. While their performances have left a lot to be desired, Los Blancos have won all six of their games till now. On the other hand, Atletico Madrid are coming off a 3-0 loss to Valencia and a 1-1 draw against Lazio.
