Thomas Tuchel had been heavily linked with a move to Santiago Bernabeu not too long ago before ending up taking the Bayern Munich job. But now, it looks like the German manager has his eyes on one of Real Madrid’s starters. And it is someone who played the best football of his career under the management of the 50-year-old.

Tuchel won the Champions League with Chelsea. One of the backbones of that team was Antonio Rudiger.

When Tuchel had arrived, Rudiger was completely out of the first-team picture at Chelsea. The German manager brought him back into the fold and quickly turned him into one of the best centre-backs in the world.

It was this form that convinced Real Madrid to sign him as a free agent. It is hard to imagine they would have done the same 18 months before that when Rudiger was struggling. Now though, it looks like Tuchel is seeking a reunion.

Tuchel wants Bayern Munich to sign Real Madrid starter

As reported by Defensa Central (via Fichajes), one of the names that resonates strongly in the halls of Bayern Munich is that of Rudiger. Tuchel has asked the Bavarian club to do everything possible to sign the player.

It is not hard to see why Tuchel might be keen on a reunion with Rudiger. He knows exactly how to get the best out of the German international, having done so at Chelsea. During that period of time, he was truly one of the best centre-backs on the planet and has not been able to replicate that form at Real Madrid.

With Eder Militao out injured for the foreseeable future, Rudiger is a regular starter for Real Madrid right now though. And it is hard to imagine that the club would consider letting him go anytime soon.
