It became pretty clear at the Metropolitano Stadium that Real Madrid are in need of reinforcements in several positions across the pitch as Atletico walked out with a comfortable 3-1 victory. Carlo Ancelotti’s side might have come into this game having won all six of their previous matches in the 2023/24 campaign, but the performances had been shaky. And they could not find a way out against Diego Simeone’s team.

Carlo Ancelotti received a lot of criticism after the game. But one also needs to recognise that the Italian manager is working with very limited options at this point in time.

One area of the pitch where Real Madrid could do with more options is left-back. Fran Garcia was one of the most disappointing players on the pitch against Atletico Madrid. And Ferland Mendy has struggled for both form and fitness in recent times.

If the club were to bring someone in in the January transfer window, a loan deal might be the perfect solution. Could they set their sights on Chelsea once again?

Real Madrid eyeing move for former Barcelona player

As reported by The Sun, Marc Cucurella is eyeing a January exit from Chelsea. Real Madrid are quietly monitoring the situation of the Spaniard with a view to a possible loan move.

Cucurella was signed by Chelsea in the summer of 2022 from Brighton & Hove Albion. But like many of their new signings, things just have not worked out.

Cucurella struggled throughout the previous campaign and he seems to be pretty much out of Mauricio Pochettino’s plans at the moment. Despite Chelsea’s struggles in the Premier League, as they sit at 14th in the table, the Spanish left-back has not played a minute in the competition yet this season.

Cucurella could potentially be a decent addition on loan for Real Madrid though. He has previous experience of Spanish football, having come through the youth ranks at Barcelona, and played for clubs like Eibar and Getafe.

Yes, Cucurella has struggled badly at Chelsea but who has not over the last two seasons? He was brilliant during his spell at Brighton & Hove Albion before that and probably a move back to Spain could help him rediscover his best form. Could we see the La Masia graduate wearing the Royal White jersey of Real Madrid soon?
