Real Madrid need to strengthen in a number of positions in the near future. One of them might very well be centre-back. At the moment, they have arguably their best defender out injured in the form of Eder Miliao. The Brazilian tore his ACL in the very first match of the campaign and he might possibly be out for the entire season.

In his absence, Real Madrid’s defence has not looked particularly impressive. The game against Atletico Madrid was the perfect example of this.

David Alaba was criticised for his display as he lost track of Alvaro Morata for both his goals on the day. At Real Madrid, Antonio Rudiger has never been able to rediscover the form that he showed under the management of Thomas Tuchel while at Chelsea. And Nacho is certainly not a long-term solution in the heart of defence. All three of them are past 30 years of age as well.

Thus, Real Madrid could do with another centre-back in the near future. And it looks like they have a player from Arsenal in their sights.

Real Madrid ready to pay €70 million fee for Arsenal player

According to Ekrem Konur (via Fichajes), Real Madrid would be willing to pay a considerable transfer fee of €70 million to sign William Saliba from Arsenal. They are looking to reconstruct their defensive backline.

Of course, Arsenal are not expected to be keen on letting one of their key starters go. But when Real Madrid come calling, it is hard for most players to resist. So, let’s see what the future holds for Saliba.

The Frenchman is one of the most talented young centre-backs in world football. He is just 22 years of age as well and is expected to get even better with experience, as most defenders do. So, Saliba is certainly someone worth keeping an eye on.
