The Kylian Mbappe to Real Madrid transfer saga has been going on for far too long. Los Blancos have been linked with the French World Cup winner for years and yet, it has not gotten over the line yet. This summer, a move had looked very possible, as it looked like PSG did not want the player to remain at the club if he did not sign a contract extension. He was left out of their pre-season tour.

But in an unexpected turn of events, not only has Mbappe remained at PSG but he is very much back in the first-team as well. Despite rumours that the situation between the club and the player has improved significantly, no contract extension has been agreed yet.

As things stand, his current deal runs out next summer. And Real Madrid could be looking to take advantage of that fact.

As reported by Defensa Central (via PSG Talk), one of the top priorities for Real Madrid is to agree on a pre-contract with Mbappe. They want to end this saga so it doesn’t linger any further.

If Real Madrid are able to sign Mbappe as a free agent, it would go down as one of the best transfers in the history of the game. The Frenchman is arguably the best player in the world right now.

Real Madrid are in need of someone who can play up top for them. Mbappe might be perfect for that role even though he seems to be at his best while playing with another centre-forward.

Also, with Benzema leaving the club, Real Madrid are in need of a new face. Many see Vinicius Junior as the one to take up the mantle. But the Brazilian winger might not be at that level of superstardom just yet.
