There are plenty of areas where Real Madrid could do with more options. One of them is certainly left-back. Ferland Mendy has struggled with both form and fitness in recent times. The expectation is that the Frenchman will leave next summer. On the other hand, Fran Garcia has been inconsistent since his arrival over the summer. He has potential but some areas of his game are in clear need of improvement.

The expectation is that Real Madrid will make a high-profile addition at left-back next summer. But who will it be?

The club have been heavily linked with Alphonso Davies in recent times. But signing the Bayern Munich ace could be difficult and they must have alternative targets.

As reported by Defensa Central (via The Hard Tackle), Carlo Ancelotti is interested in Federico Dimarco. The Real Madrid manager is a fan of the Inter Milan defender and he wants the club to sign him.

Dimarco joined Inter Milan in 2018. He had to spend quite some time out on loan, developing his game. But he has been a stalwart at the back for the Nerazzurri for the past few years now.

Someone like Dimarco could be a solid addition for Real Madrid. But at the same time, one has to point out the fact that he works better as a wingback than as a traditional left-back. Could that be a potential problem when it comes to a move to Santiago Bernabeu?

Most teams do sit back a lot when they come up against Real Madrid, so it should be a familiar role for Dimarco in such games. But one has to question how he would do as a traditional left-back against big teams, when the defensive side of his game will be just as important as what he offers going forward.
