Real Madrid have a great record when it comes to signing youngsters from around the world. There are some who they have been linked with for years now although a move to Santiago Bernabeu has not materialised, yet. Could the club end up signing one of their rumoured targets from the Zinedine Zidane era in the near future?

One name that has been linked with Real Madrid on and off for years is Rayan Cherki. The French wonderkid currently plays for Lyon in Ligue 1 and has already shown flashes of brilliance at the senior level despite still being just 19 years of age.

The future of Cherki at Lyon is uncertain though. And that has opened a window of opportunity for Real Madrid. But they are not the only ones being linked with him.

As reported by Fichajes, Cherki’s departure from Lyon in January has become an increasingly real possibility. PSG have emerged as a possible destination but Real Madrid have also taken note of the French player’s situation. It could take a €50 million transfer fee to sign him.

There is no doubt that Cherki is a superb talent. In fact, we might have only seen the surface of what the Frenchman is truly capable of.

His current situation at Lyon does not seem to be ideal though. He has not made a great start to the season and it is possible that he could leave in January.

All that being said, do Real Madrid have a role for Cherki in the current setup? The Frenchman is at his best when playing in the number 10 role. But he can play on the right flank as well.

Bellingham has established himself as a nailed-on starter when it comes to the number 10 role. On the other hand, Real Madrid are not even playing wingers anymore in their new 4-4-2 formation.
