Real Madrid already have a fair share of players missing through injury at the moment. The situation is especially tough at centre-back. Eder Militao tore his ACL in the very first game of the season and could potentially be out for the entire campaign. On the other hand, David Alaba recently picked up an injury in the recent game against Las Palmas.

It is unclear when Alaba will return to action. And now, Real Madrid have been handed another blow.

Nacho Fernandez picked up a late red card in the game against Girona. To be very honest, it was a bad tackle on Portu and the sending-off was deserved. It was unnecessary as well as Real Madrid was already up 3-0. You would not expect a player of the Spaniard’s experience to make that sort of mistake and unfortunately, he did.

As reported by MARCA, Nacho has been handed a three-game suspension. Unless it is reduced, the Spaniard will miss the upcoming games against Osasuna, Sevilla and Barcelona.

One would hope that by the time the first El Clasico of the season rolls around, Alaba will be fit to take part again. Otherwise, Los Blancos could be in serious trouble with no other options available at centre-back except for Antonio Rudiger.

Carlo Ancelotti has a decision to make against Osasuna. Even if Alaba recovers by then, it would be a risk to play him from the start.

That leaves Anceotti with very few options. Of course, he could give a centre-back from Castilla, most possibly Marvel, a big opportunity. Or he could try to convert one of the midfielders or full-backs into a centre-back for the game. It is worth pointing out that there was speculation in the summer of trying Ferland Mendy as a centre-back.
