Real Madrid are in a bit of a transitional phase, with the old guard giving way to the new younger generation of players at the club. The squad for the future is slowly starting to take shape, with world-class talent all over the pitch. However, there are still a few gaps in the team that need to be addressed if Los Blancos want to maintain their status as one of the best teams in Europe.

With gaps still needing to be filled in the squad, Real Madrid will no doubt have to start looking at potential transfer targets. And it seems that two players from Newcastle United have managed to catch their eye.

As reported by Defensa Central (via Mirror), Real Madrid are sending Juni Calafat to ‘monitor’ Kylian Mbappe when he faces Newcastle United. The chief scout will be taking a closer look at both Alexander Isak and Bruno Guimaraes as well.

Guimaraes is a name that has been linked with Real Madrid in the past, and it has been believed that the club have been keeping an eye on the midfielder since his time at Lyon. With the current midfield depth, it is hard to imagine where he would fit in, but perhaps they are preparing for the departure of both Luka Modric and Toni Kroos in the future.

Los Blancos are lacking their future number 9 at the moment and Isak could be that player. Real Madrid have crossed paths with him in the past as the Swedish international played for Real Sociedad for a few years.

It remains to be seen if Real Madrid end up making a move for either or both of them in the future. There is no doubt that they are quality players.

Currently, Guimaraes would be considered a luxury signing for the club. But someone like Isak could be an excellent long-term addition.
