Erling Haaland has picked up right where he left off last season and is scoring for fun for Manchester City once again. The Norwegian is widely considered the best striker on the planet right now and one of the frontrunners for the Ballon d’Or alongside Lionel Messi. Naturally, Real Madrid have been linked with a move for him.
For years, Real Madrid have been chasing the signing of Kylian Mbappe but have not been able to get it done till now. Could they end up turning to Haaland instead?
Many believe that Haaland would be a better signing than Mbappe and would fit the profile Real Madrid need right now. The French World Cup winner is at his best when playing through the left flank, and Los Blancos already have Vinicius Junior for that role.
They do not have a long-term solution at striker though, following the departure of Karim Benzema in the summer. Could Haaland be the man for the job?
Manchester City make Haaland decision amid Real Madrid rumours
Of course, signing Haaland will not be easy. Not only will it take a mega transfer fee but on top of that, Manchester City are not expected to be keen to lose their best player.
As reported by The Telegraph, Manchester City are preparing for talks with Haaland over a new contract in what would be considered a blow to Real Madrid’s hopes of signing the Norwegian striker. The European champions are keen to extend his deal and are expected to discuss new terms in the months ahead.
Of course, Real Madrid are still believed to be favourites to sign Mbappe next summer, when his current deal with PSG is scheduled to run out. And considering how the French club’s season is going, it is hard to see him remain there for much longer.
