Real Madrid are in a transitional phase right now and have been for some time to be very honest. It is a credit to the club, the players and the coaching staff for remaining a winning team despite that. We have seen what has happened to teams like Chelsea recently, as they have undergone a change in ownership and struggled for results despite splashing out on signings.

Real Madrid on the other hand have made the most of the roster they have, although it clearly lacks depth. And we are seeing the Old Guard make way for the next generation of superstars.

That has meant reduced roles for legends like Luka Modric and Toni Kroos. While the latter is still involved to a large degree, the Croatian icon’s minutes have gone down significantly this season.

This has resulted in him being linked with a move away from Real Madrid and Inter Miami are believed to be one of the clubs interested in signing Modric. Rumours have even suggested that Lionel Messi likes the idea of teaming up with the Croatian maestro.

Despite this, it looks like Modric leaving in January is not on the cards at the moment. As reported by MARCA, Carlo Ancelotti said regarding the matter in his pre-match press conference:

"“I absolutely do not think that Modric is considering leaving in January, because he thinks he is an important player. We also think that he is very important, that he is still very important, that he will be very important for this season, so he isn’t considering leaving and we are happy with this.”"

Modric signed a one-year contract extension with Real Madrid not too long ago and would not have expected his playing time to be reduced so drastically this season. Now, it remains to be seen if he is able to win his place back in the starting XI.

There is a lot of competition in the middle of the park at Real Madrid right now. Jude Bellingham has come in and established himself as an undisputed starter. The likes of Eduardo Camavinga, Fede Valverde and Aurelien Tchouameni are doing well too.
