Manchester City and Real Madrid came up in the Champions League semi-finals last season, with Pep Guardiola’s team finishing as comfortable victors. With how things are going in this campaign, with both teams performing at a high level, it would not be a major surprise if the two end up meeting in Europe’s elite competition once again.

It looks like it is not just on the pitch that Real Madrid and Manchester City might be competing with each other though. They seem to have a common transfer target as well.

It is no secret that there are a number of positions where Real Madrid could do with some strengthening. One of them is left-back. Ferland Mendy’s long-term future at the club is in doubt while Fran Garcia has been inconsistent since arriving in the summer.

One player they have been linked with is Alphonso Davies. His current contract runs out in the summer of 2025 and the Canadian international is yet to agree an extension with Bayern Munich. Real Madrid are not the only team monitoring his situation though.

As reported by Defensa Central (via Fichajes), Manchester City are preparing a move for Davies. With one of the best projects in Europe, they are willing to go all out for the Bayern Munich player.

Someone like Davies would be an excellent addition to Real Madrid. He is considered one of the best left-backs in all of Europe and is still just 22 years of age. Thus, he ticks almost every box that the club look for when it comes to signing players.

Of course, the competition for Manchester City makes things tougher for Real Madrid. Also, it would be a mistake to rule out the idea of Davies signing a contract extension with Bayern Munich.
