Real Madrid have made a pretty good start to the campaign but this has the feel of a makeshift team overall, with the long-term future of Carlo Ancelotti in doubt as well. The club need to strengthen in a number of positions if they are to achieve sustainable success. One of them is striker.
Karim Benzema left at the end of last season and the club did not really replace him over the summer. They signed Joselu on loan from Espanyol and the Spanish international has been very good whenever given a chance.
That being said, he is 33 years of age and clearly not the long-term solution for Real Madrid. They will need to sign a world-class striker who can lead the line for the next decade or so to come.
One name they have been linked with lately is Julian Alvarez, who is enjoying a great season. But he is not the only Argentine World Cup winner on Real Madrid’s radar right now.
Real Madrid eyeing €100 million World Cup winner
As reported by Defensa Central (via The Hard Tackle), Real Madrid are interested in Lautaro Martinez. Juni Calafat has identified the Argentine striker as the solution to lead the line for several years. But it is unclear if the 26-year-old will be available in the 2024 summer transfer window.
To be honest, Lautaro was disappointing at the World Cup. He ended up losing his starting spot to Alvarez midway through the tournament and struggled to make an impact even when brought off the bench, failing to produce a single goal contribution.
Lautaro certainly seems to have grown as a result of that experience. He is playing the best football of his career right now and has scored 12 goals in 11 appearances this season so far. It is easy to see why Real Madrid might want him.
