It is no secret that Real Madrid need to strengthen their ranks up top. The club are very light on options in the forward areas and that has even led to Carlo Ancelotti having to change his system in an attempt to get the best out of the squad available to him. Whether the Italian coach will stay at Santiago Bernabeu beyond this season remains to be seen. But the fact remains that Los Blancos need to make more additions.

For a long time, rumours suggested that Erling Haaland was their top target to strengthen their ranks up top. But in recent weeks, another Manchester City player has been heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid.

Julian Alvarez is having the season of his life right now. A lot of people feel that he is outperforming Haaland at the moment and it is hard to argue with them.

Alvarez has been superb and is finally playing consistent football for Manchester City. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he has scored 7 goals and provided 5 assists in 15 appearances in this campaign so far.

Of course, it would not be easy to sign the Argentine World Cup winner. As reported by Football Insider, it would take a transfer bid of at least £80 million for Manchester City to consider parting ways with Alvarez.

If Alvarez can continue performing at this level through the course of the campaign, one can only expect that figure to rise over the coming months. It remains to be seen how things play out.

One good thing about the matter is that Manchester City never seem to stand in the way of players if they want to leave. Of course, with Alvarez playing regular football right now, there is very little incentive for him to do so. But, Real Madrid do have a special pull.
