Real Madrid could certainly do with another striker in the near future. The club never really replaced Karim Benzema, who brought an end to his 14-year run at Santiago Bernabeu to join Al-Ittihad at the end of last season. It is credit to Joselu that he has done a fantastic job whenever given a chance but most people recognise that the Spaniard is not a long-term solution up top for Los Blancos.
The club have been plenty of high-profile names in recent times. It remains to be seen who they end up signing eventually to fill the long-term void up top.
Santiago Gimenez is one of the names who has been linked with a move to Real Madrid recently. It is not hard to see why as he has been in fantastic form this season and is scoring for fun.
Gimenez scored a brace in Feyenoord’s recent 3-1 win over Lazio in the Champions League. And it seems like Real Madrid are one of the clubs leading the race to sign him.
Real Madrid and Tottenham Hotspur in pole position to sign €40 million striker
As reported by GOAL, Morris Pagniello, consultant to the forward, stated in an interview with TuttoMercato:
"“We talked about him with Inter, Milan, Lazio and Napoli, but for me he could be perfect for both Inter and Juventus. They would be the best options for him. I’ve been telling various clubs to believe in him, his value went from €10m to €40m in just under 12 months. Now the teams closest to him are Real Madrid and Tottenham.”"
Tottenham Hotspur saw Harry Kane leave the club this summer in order to join Bayern Munich. That has not stopped Ange Postecoglou’s side from thriving as they sit atop the Premier League right now, exceeding all expectations from fans would have set for them.
On the other hand, Real Madrid have been very active when it comes to signing players with the same profile as Gimenez, instead of going for well-established superstars. He is 22 years old and has a lot of room for improvement. That being said, he has scored 15 goals this season in just 11 appearances and is already one of the best young strikers in Europe.
