Real Madrid are riding a wave of positive momentum at the momentum after getting themselves a 2-1 win over Barcelona, thanks to a brace from Jude Bellingham. That does not mean that everything is going Los Blancos’ way at the moment though. In fact, they have been handed a serious injury problem.

Carlo Ancelotti’s new 4-4-2 formation has not helped everyone even though it has produced results. One player who has benefited from it though is Aurelien Tchouameni.

Tchouameni had not had a great second half to the 2022/23 season and there were some question marks about his future at the club over the summer. But in a new defensive midfield position, the Frenchman has thrived this season and established himself as a regular in the starting XI.

Unfortunately for Real Madrid, he has picked up an injury that will keep him on the sidelines for a while. As tweeted out by Lucas Navarrete, Tchouameni is set to be out for two months with a fracture in the second metatarsal of his left foot.

Tchouameni being out is not good news for Real Madrid. The club have a thin roster and not a lot of depth in most areas of the pitch.

One would expect Eduardo Camavinga to be the one to replace Tchouameni in the defensive midfield position. It could also mean some more regular playing time for the likes of Toni Kroos and Luka Modric, who have lost their status as starters this season.

Real Madrid are a better team with Tchouameni than without him though. Hopefully, his absence will not affect the balance that this team has seemed to have this season till now. We can only wish the Frenchman the best in his recovery and hope he returns to full fitness as soon as possible.
