Manchester City were the best team in Europe by far last season, winning the Treble. Their long wait for a Champions League came to an end and along the way, they got the better of Real Madrid in the semi-finals of the competition and quite comfortably as well. Los Blancos do appear to be a more solid and effective unit this time around though.

So, it will be interesting to see how things play out if Manchester City come across Real Madrid in the Champions League knockout stages this season. It is not just on the pitch where the two could find themselves competing though.

Manchester City have continuously continued to strengthen their squad over the years. And it looks like they have one of Real Madrid’s targets in their sights.

Takefusa Kubo might be one of the most in-demand young talents in Europe right now after a great start to the season. As reported by Mundo Deportivo, Manchester City representatives requested seats from Real Sociedad for the derby on September 30.

That derby ended in a 3-0 win for Real Sociedad over Athletic Bilbao. Kubo scored a goal on the occasion as well.

He has been one of the best players in La Liga this season and is showing his quality at the Champions League level as well. Unsurprisingly, some of the biggest clubs in the world seem to have taken notice.

Real Madrid parted ways with Kubo before he ever made an appearance for the senior team. But they are rumoured to be considering bringing him back next summer amid his impressive form at Real Sociedad.

Kubo is believed to have a €60 million release clause in his current deal at Real Sociedad. Real Madrid can sign him for half that though as they hold a 50% sell-on clause in his contract.
