Erik ten Hag had a very good first season with Manchester United. The Dutchman ended their long wait for a trophy by guiding them to a League Cup and also got them back into the Champions League by finishing third in the Premier League. But things have gone south this season, and questions are inevitably being asked about his future. Amidst all this, a Real Madrid legend has emerged as the favourite to be the next manager of the club.

Manchester United have struggled badly this season. They have lost five of their first ten games in the Premier League, and sit 8th. And they could have a tough time getting into the knockout phases of the Champions League, despite being put in a relatively easy group.

All things considered, Ten Hag is not in a good situation right now. He finds himself in the same position that Jose Mourinho and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer were in before they were shown the exit door.

Just like those two, he made a good start to life in the Old Trafford hot seat. But now, the team is on the downslide and he is struggling to stop them. If things don’t improve, it is only a matter of time before Ten Hag heads for the exit as well.

Real Madrid legend favourite to be next Manchester United manager

Zinedine Zidane has emerged as the bookies favourite to be the next Manchester United manager amid doubts over Ten Hag’s future. The Frenchman left Real Madrid in the summer of 2021 and has been without a club since then.

Of course, that is not due to a lack of interest in him. Instead, Zidane seems to be interested in managing only a few select teams and it looks like those jobs have not become available.

Manchester United are one of the biggest teams in the world, despite their struggles over the past decade. And it would be interesting to see if the Old Trafford job interests Zidane if the Premier League giants do come calling.
