Real Madrid have arguably the best midfield in the world right now. We have already run out of superlatives to describe how good Jude Bellingham has been since arriving in the summer from Borussia Dortmund. The likes of Eduardo Camavinga, Fede Valverde and Aurelien Tchouameni are big parts of their future as well.

It is a transitional phase for Real Madrid. So, legends like Toni Kroos and Luka Modric are no longer nailed-on starters. Dani Ceballos is someone who is expected to struggle for consistent playing time as well.

Despite this, it looks like Real Madrid have been offered the chance to sign a Manchester City midfielder. Them making a move for him does feel unlikely though.

The news does come somewhat out of the blue. As reported by Defensa Central (via CaughtOffside), Real Madrid have been contacted by Kalvin Phillips’ agent over a potential transfer.

Real Madrid offered chance to sign £45m Manchester City player

Phillips was signed by Manchester City in the summer of 2022 for a transfer package believed to be around £45 million. He had come through the ranks at Leeds United to establish himself as a club hero. He had also played a part in the England national team’s successes in recent years, including their run to the EURO 2020 final.

Phillips’ time at Manchester City has proven to be a failure though. He has barely gotten any chances in Pep Guardiola’s side.

It is believed to be only a matter of time before Phillips leaves Manchester City. His departure could come as early as the upcoming January transfer window.

It is very clear that Phillips can contribute when playing the right role. And at 27 years of age, he is entering his prime. That being said, it is hard to see where he would fit into this already stacked Real Madrid team.
