Another day, another contract renewal for Real Madrid. Rodrygo has become the latest player to extend his stay at Santiago Bernabeu. The club recently made the announcement on their official website, as the Brazilian international has extended his deal with Los Blancos till the summer of 2028.

This is the second contract renewal of a Real Madrid player within this week. Vinicius Junior also put pen to paper on a long-term extension recently.

Rodrygo was signed from Santos in 2019. He has since made his way into the starting XI at Real Madrid with his outstanding performances and match-winning goals for the club over the years.

The Brazilian is seen as a prospect who has already performed at the highest level and he was during Real Madrid’s run to their fourteenth UEFA Champions League title. Nobody will forget his two late goals in the semi-final against Manchester City when all hope had seemed lost.

The contract announcement does come at an unexpected time. Rodrygo has been criticised a lot for his performances this season and recently, he has even been linked with a move away.

After the departure of Karim Benzema, Rodrygo has had to play in a more central role. This season, it hasn’t been smooth sailing for the Brazilian as he has struggled to find his best form in Real Madrid’s new system.

Rodrygo recently ended his goal drought against SC Braga in the Champions League, scoring just his second of the season having found the back of the net in the opening La Liga game against Athletic Bilbao. The Brazilian would draw heavy criticism for his performance in the very next match against FC Barcelona.

Carlo Ancelotti has shown faith in the 22-year-old as he has started up front in almost all the matches this season so far. And now, the club have also proven their trust in the player by handing him a new deal despite his recent struggles.
