Real Madrid release official statement about Kylian Mbappe
The Kylian Mbappe to Real Madrid transfer saga has been going on for years at this point and has been full of twists and turns. It took one more today, as Los Blancos released an official statement regarding the Frenchman. It goes without saying that it came out of the blue and left a lot of fans confused.
A club like Real Madrid is constantly surrounded by rumours about potential arrivals and departures. That is nothing new and pretty much expected.
What was not expected though is that Real Madrid would go on to release an official statement about some recent rumours about the club and Mbappe. Not many, if anybody, would have seen that coming.
The official statement from Real Madrid read:
"In view of the information recently published by various media outlets regarding alleged negotiations between the player Kylian Mbappé and our club, Real Madrid C.F. would like to state that this information is categorically false and that no such negotiations have taken place with any player belonging to PSG."
Real Madrid release official statement about Mbappe
It is important to not read too much into the statement. There are many who have decided to view this as Real Madrid completely ruling out a move for Mbappe. That does not seem to be the case though.
Instead, it might just be a matter of Real Madrid making sure that it is publicly known that they have been involved in negotiations with a player who is still under contract at PSG. Mbappe’s current deal with the Ligue 1 champions runs till the summer of 2024 though and at the moment, him signing an extension with them feels very unlikely. He will be free to sign a pre-contract with any club starting January of next year.
At this point in time, Santiago Bernabeu feels like Mbappe’s most likely destination if he were to leave PSG. Of course, the idea of him signing an extension there cannot be completely ruled out as Real Madrid fans learned the hard way a couple of years back. The name of Liverpool has also been in the mix lately.
