It is hard to see any team as complete as Manchester City in Europe at this point in time. They won the Treble last season and to be honest, as incredible as it may sound, it would not be impossible for them to repeat that feat. We saw how good they can be on their day in that 4-0 win over Real Madrid in the Champions League semi-finals last season.

Pep Guardiola’s side are now back atop the Premier League table after Tottenham Hotspur lost to Chelsea. They have also been perfect in the Champions League so far, winning all four of their games in the competition this season till now.

Also, they have traditionally been a team that gets stronger as the season progresses. So, the big question is, who could be genuine competition for them in the Champions League?

Manchester United legend, Rio Ferdinand, appears to believe that Real Madrid are one of the teams who could be in contention. As reported by METRO, when asked who can challenge Manchester City in the Champions League, he told TNT Sports:

"‘Real Madrid have obviously got that relationship with this tournament and they’ve got some fantastic players, Jude Bellingham in fine form. They’d be one you’d mention.‘I think the forward line, the front line especially at Bayern Munich could cause any team in this competitions problems, especially with Harry Kane scoring at the rate that he is.‘But I don’t see anybody who is the full package, you can pick holes in all those teams. This is the only team you look at and think they’re a complete team. That’s the problem with everyone else.’"

Of course, Manchester City are heavy favourites in the Champions League right now. But one cannot forget that it is a long season.

Players could get injured or they could lose form in the vital part of the campaign. For all of the success that Manchester City have had domestically under the management of Guardiola, they have won the Champions League only once.

So, it is far from a foregone conclusion. Yes, Manchester City have the best squad in all of Europe. But a lot more goes into winning the Champions League. Real Madrid have lost only one game this season till now and nobody should count them out, especially in a competition they have won 14 times.
