Carlo Ancelotti’s future at Real Madrid has been a topic of discussion for quite some time now. There is no question that the Italian manager has brought a lot of success to the club and continues to do so even though he has also faced his fair share of criticism. Yet, he has never failed like a long-term appointment.

Is there even a thing such as a long-term manager at Real Madrid these days? The last person to hold on to the job for at least three seasons was Jose Mourinho. The one before him was Vincente del Bosque.

Ancelotti looks set to complete three straight seasons in the Real Madrid hot seat this time around as there do not seem to be any places to replace him in the middle of the season. But there is a lot of talk that he could leave next summer to take up the Brazil national team job.

We will see how things play out. A lot of managers are already being touted as Ancelotti’s replacement though. One of the names in the mix appears to be that of Raul, who is the current Castilla manager.

Real Madrid legend does not rule out replacing Carlo Ancelotti

Raul has not openly ruled out the idea of replacing Ancelotti one day. As reported by Cadena SER, when asked about the possibility of coaching Real Madrid’s first team, he said:

"“I am a club person. I am delighted with what I do, the important thing is to help on a day-to-day basis. Next year, next season, we will already know. In this football, there is no next year. There is today and the next game. For Real Madrid it is the Champions League game, and for me the Murcia game on Sunday.”"

Raul earned a lot of plaudits for almost guiding Castilla to promotion last season. But this time around, they are not having as good of a campaign and find themselves in mid-table.

So, the talk of Raul being the next Real Madrid manager has fizzled out in recent months. Instead, it looks like another club legend in Xabi Alonso would be the favourite for the job if Ancelotti was to indeed leave.
