Manchester United have signed quite a few players from Real Madrid in recent years. Of course, Casemiro and Raphael Varane are key parts of Erik ten Hag’s squad at the moment. Fans with a keen memory will also remember Angel Di Maria making the switch to Old Trafford the summer after winning the Champions League with Los Blancos.

Manchester United have continued to struggle despite signing several proven winners though. Their 4-3 loss to FC Copenhagen in midweek was just the most recent in a long list of disappointing results this season.

Thus, the club will need to continue adding top-quality talents to their ranks. And one player they have been heavily linked with in recent times is Federico Valverde.

Valverde was linked with quite a few clubs in the recent summer transfer window, with Manchester United. But Real Madrid’s latest announcement surely puts an end to all those rumours.

As reported by Real Madrid’s official website, the club and Valverde have agreed an extension to the player’s contract. It will see him stay at Santiago Bernabeu until 30 June 2029.

Valverde arrived at Real Madrid when he was 18 and has grown into a first-team starter over the years. Right now, he is one of the most important players in Carlo Ancelotti’s squad and parting ways with him should not even be considered.

The Uruguayan international is entering his prime. And on top of his game, he has the potential to be one of the best midfielders in the world.

Of course, signing a new contract does not mean that a player will definitely stay for its full length. If a blockbuster transfer bid did arrive on the table, it would be interesting to see what Real Madrid decide to do. In recent years, they have seemed open to the idea of even their most important players leaving for the right offer.
