Injuries have been a thorn in Real Madrid’s path for the last several seasons. And with the club not doing enough to strengthen their squad depth, it is no surprise that that has continued to be the case this season as well. They already have Thibaut Courtois on the sidelines for possibly the entirety of the campaign after he tore his ACL.
Kepa Arrizabalaga was signed on a season-long loan from Chelsea to take Courtois’ place in the team. So far, he has done a very good job and there are even rumours that Real Madrid could try to sign him on a permanent basis.
Kepa suffered an injury while warming up for the recent Champions League game against SC Braga. He was initially named in the starting XI but had to be replaced by Andriy Lunin.
For his part, Lunin did a fantastic job, saving a penalty early in the game and keeping a clean sheet. On the other hand, we have gotten an update on Kepa’s injury and fortunately, it is not a serious issue.
Real Madrid player ruled out for few weeks with muscle injury
As reported by ESPN, Kepa is expected to miss between two and three weeks with a muscular injury. The Spanish goalkeeper suffered a ruptured abductor muscle in his right leg and will be out for around 15 days.
The upcoming international break means that Kepa should not miss too many games though. There is a possibility that he could be ready in time to face Cadiz when club football resumes later this month. If not, then the Champions League game against Napoli.
This might be a chance for Lunin to show what he is capable of as well. He did a great job against SC Braga and is expected to start against Valencia this weekend at Santiago Bernabeu as well.
