Manchester United find themselves in a bad position once again this season. The team moved in the right direction under the management of Erik ten Hag in the previous campaign but a lot of that good work seems to have been undone over the past few months. It seems like a never-ending cycle for the Premier League giants. Could they try to sign a long-time Real Madrid target in hopes of solving their issues?
It has been some time since Manchester United has been home to the best player in the world. Cristiano Ronaldo won the Ballon d’Or while playing for them a decade-and-a-half ago. Now, it seems like they have their eyes on a player with the potential to reach that level on his day.
The long-running Kylian Mbappe to Real Madrid saga took an unexpected twist recently as there were suggestions that Los Blancos have decided to not pursue a move for the PSG superstar. It remains to be seen how accurate those reports are.
On the other hand, as reported by Football Insider, Manchester United are among the Premier League sides monitoring the situation of Mbappe. The Old Trafford club, Manchester City and Chelsea are likely to be the only English sides capable of funding a deal for the French World Cup winner.
Manchester United interested in Real Madrid-linked superstar
Mbappe’s current deal with PSG runs out next summer. At the moment, a contract extension seems unlikely.
Never say never in football though. We all saw how quickly things changed in 2022 when he signed an extension with PSG even though most expected him to join Real Madrid.
It would be a mistake to count Real Madrid out of the race for Mbappe either. In fact, Santiago Bernabeu feels like his most likely destination if or when he decides to leave PSG.
