Real Madrid found themselves in a very difficult situation when Thibaut Courtois got injured days before the campaign even started. The Belgian tore his ACL and it is very possible that he might not return to action this season at all. As a result, Los Blancos needed to find a solution between the posts and quickly.

Ultimately, they ended up signing Kepa Arrizabalaga on loan from Chelsea. While there were many who doubted the move, the Spaniard has proven to be a solid addition and has done a very good job.

It looks like there is another goalkeeper that Real Madrid had submitted an offer for during the summer though. It was none other than Giorgi Mamardashvili of Valencia.

As reported by AS, Real Madrid offered €5 million as a loan fee for one season for Mamardashvili and a non-obligatory option to buy clause of more than €30 million. But Los Blancos wanted Valencia to give a “yes” or “no” response within 48 hours.

Obviously, a move for Mamardashvili did not end up materialising. The situation was perhaps not the best for Valencia, who were required to make a quick decision on his possible exit and then find a replacement for their first-choice goalkeeper as well.

Recently, there has been talk that Real Madrid could try to sign Kepa on a permanent basis from Chelsea if he is made available for a transfer fee that suits them. And understandably so, as the Spaniard has done very well while Andriy Lunin is expected to leave soon with his contract running out in the summer of 2024.

On the other hand, Mamardashvili continues to be linked with a move away from Valencia. Several Premier League and Serie A clubs are rumoured to be interested in him as are Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich.
