Real Madrid could do with more options in several positions across the pitch. One of them is centre-back. Eder Militao tore his ACL in the first match of the season and is out for the foreseeable future. That has left them with Antonio Rudiger, David Alaba and Nacho as the options in the heart of defence.

To be fair to Carlo Ancelotti’s side, they have improved a lot defensively this season. They have conceded just 9 goals over the first 13 league games so far.

There is a need to have an eye on the future as well. Rudiger, Alaba and Nacho are all past 30 years of age. On the other hand, it remains to be seen if the ACL injury will end up having any long-term effects on Militao as a player.

So, Real Madrid could do with another centre-back. But it looks like Manchester United are leading the race for one of their top targets in that position.

Manchester United lead race to sign £54 million Real Madrid target

As reported by Diario AS (via Manchester World), Manchester United are leading Real Madrid in the race for Goncalo Inacio. He has a release clause believed to be worth around £54 million.

Inacio currently plays for Sporting Lisbon. He is also a part of the Portugal national team setup, having made his debut earlier this year.

Inacio is just 22 years of age and is considered one of the top young centre-backs in the world. Naturally, he would tick a lot of boxes that Real Madrid look for when signing players these days.

There clearly seems to be a lot of competition for Inacio’s signature though. It remains to be seen if Real Madrid are able to move ahead of the likes of Manchester United in the transfer race and get a deal done for the Portuguese international centre-back.
