Reece James showed why he is rated so highly by many with his performance against Manchester City at the weekend. The Chelsea captain was excellent while he was on the pitch. And if he can put his fitness issues behind him, he has the potential to be the best right-back on the planet. It is no surprise that clubs like Real Madrid are being linked with him.

Real Madrid need to find a long-term replacement for Dani Carvajal soon. Someone like James could be perfect as the Spaniard’s successor.

Manchester City are rumoured to hold an interest in James as well. Kyle Walker is 33 years of age and will need to be replaced sooner or later.

As reported by 90min, Real Madrid have an interest in James. However, the player’s focus remains on helping Chelsea re-establish themselves as Premier League contenders.

James came up through the youth ranks at Chelsea and was named the captain of the club this season, with Cesar Azpilicueta leaving for Atletico Madrid. He also has a long-term deal with the club that is believed to run until the summer of 2028.

Things have not been going Chelsea’s way since the change in ownership. That being said, they have shown signs recently that they can rediscover their best in the future if this team is allowed time to develop and some smart additions are made along the way.

They have drawn with Manchester City, Liverpool and Arsenal. And one could argue that they were the better team in all of those games. They also won against Tottenham Hotspur. Those are four of the best teams in the Premier League.

It is not hard to see why Real Madrid would be interested in signing James. But it looks like a move is not on the cards.
