Real Madrid president prefers move for €60 million player

Real Madrid are expected to continue strengthening their squad in the coming transfer windows. The club have a lot of quality players in their ranks right now and their strong start to the season is proof of that. But at the same time, one cannot overlook their lack of depth. Constant injury problems have not helped them either.

One of the areas where they lack options particularly is up top. They need to sign a long-term striker for sure and could do with some backup on the wings as well.

Nico Williams of Athletic Bilbao is someone the club have been linked with in recent times. But it looks like Los Blancos might have other plans.

The Athletic Bilbao winger is believed to have a €50 million release clause. As reported by Defensa Central (via The Hard Tackle), Real Madrid president Florentino Perez prefers a move for Takefusa Kubo over Williams.

Kubo was a Real Madrid player not too long ago. But he never managed to break into the first-team picture at Santiago Bernabeu, spending time out on loan at several clubs instead.

Ultimately, he joined Real Sociedad in the summer of 2022. He has shown immense improvement since then and is now one of the best players in La Liga.

Real Madrid have been very open to the idea of bringing back former players over the years. Just last summer, they signed Fran Garcia. Could Kubo be next on that list?

It has been suggested that there is a release clause of around €60 million in Kubo’s contract with Real Sociedad. But Real Madrid are believed to have a 50% sell-on clause for their former player. As a result, they could bring him back to Santiago Bernabeu for a transfer fee in the region of €30 million.
