Unless something unexpected happens over the coming months, Carlo Ancelotti looks set to see out the full-length of this three-year contract at Real Madrid. When the Italian was brought back, most people viewed him as a bit of a stop-gap solution in the hot seat rather than the long-term answer.

Yet, he has managed to spend more time and win more trophies in his second stint with Real Madrid than most of the managers in the club’s history. In fact, one could argue that the Italian has not been given the credit that he deserves for how well he has done by a large section of the fan base.

Real Madrid have won every trophy possible under the management of Ancelotti over the previous two seasons. How many managers can say that?

It looks like he is very highly rated by the club though. Initially, the expectation was that Ancelotti would leave Real Madrid at the end of his contract, with the Brazilian national team touted to be his most possible next destination. But now, it looks like an extension at Santiago Bernabeu is not out of the question.

Unexpected twist in Ancelotti’s Real Madrid future

As reported by Relevo, the club are beginning to consider the possibility of Ancelotti’s renewal. Florentino Perez is seriously considering offering him a contract extension. The proposal could even be for two years. It remains to be seen whether it would be a fixed year with the option of a second or two years permanent.

It would be quite the twist if Ancelotti ended up renewing with Real Madrid. Especially after the number of managers they have been linked with lately, including Xabi Alonso.

But then, if Ancelotti continues to deliver results, there is no real reason to make a change. Despite the challenging circumstances, the club have lost just one game so far this season under the Italian’s watch.
