Much like last season, Real Madrid are struggling with injury problems. The team lost starting goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois before the campaign started and centre-back Eder Militao on matchday 1, both to potentially season-ending ACL injuries. More recently, Aurelien Tchouameni and Eduardo Camavinga have been injured.

Jude Bellingham has also been dealing with a shoulder injury. However, his issue is not thought to be serious and he is expected to be back after the international break.

The most recent injury blow is a very significant one though. Vinicius Jr is expected to be sidelined for up to around two months. This leaves Real Madrid with only three fit forward players for the foreseeable future, which is a worry. So in response, the club seem to be eyeing up a potential move in January.

The name might come as a surprise to most fans though. As reported by SPORT (via The Sun), Real Madrid could turn to Timo Werner to temporarily plug a gap up top.

Real Madrid linked with January move for German international

Timo Werner is a player who had been linked with a move to Real Madrid before his transfer to Chelsea in the summer of 2020. The German spent two full seasons at Stamford Bridge, never quite living up to the expectations, despite helping the club to a Champions League win.

In the summer of 2022, Werner moved back to RB Leipzig for a transfer fee believed to be around £25 million. He failed to recapture his old form in his first season back but did score 16 goals in total. Things have gone south this time around and there is speculation that the Bundesliga club are open to the idea of him leaving.

It remains to be seen if Real Madrid make a move for Werner. If they do, would they want him on just a loan for the rest of the season or on a permanent deal?
