Real Madrid in talks to sign former Barcelona player
Real Madrid need to strengthen their squad this January. We all know that the club do not like to make additions in the middle of the season but considering the circumstances, they must make some this time around. The depth was questionable to begin with and a long list of key players are now out on the sidelines with medium to long-term injuries.
One area where Real Madrid are particularly weak is upfront. They did not really replace Karim Benzema over the summer and that led to Carlo Ancelotti changing his formation.
Now, Vinicius Junior is expected to remain out for a couple of months as well after picking up an injury during the international break. That leaves Rodrygo, Joselu and Brahim Diaz as the options available to Ancelotti in the forward areas.
Hopefully, Real Madrid will try to sign a striker in the January transfer window. And one player who has been somewhat surprisingly linked with them is Mauro Icardi.
Real Madrid in talks to sign former Barcelona player
As reported by AS (via Football Espana), Icardi’s representative Elio Letterio Pino said:
"“There is no official offer yet. I’m in Madrid. Real Madrid have not made any offer for Icardi. They haven’t made an official offer yet, but we’re talking to those in charge at Real Madrid.”"
Icardi was considered one of the best strikers in Europe while at Inter Milan. He was unsuccessful in recapturing that form at PSG. But now at Galatasaray, he is playing at a very high level once again and that seems to have caught the eye of Real Madrid.
Icardi would not be a long-term solution by any means. He is set to turn 31 in February. But he does have a lot of top-level experience, has shown the ability to find the back of the net consistently and can prove to be a smart addition to this team like Joselu.
There is zero doubt that Los Blancos need to add another striker to their ranks. Let’s see if that turns out to be Icardi or someone else.
