Most Real Madrid fans feel that the club need to make additions in the upcoming January transfer window. The club had been lacking in depth already and on top of that, they are now dealing with a number of injury problems. The start to the season has been good but their form could fade away easily under these circumstances, similar to what happened in the previous campaign.

Real Madrid are very light on options up front. Joselu, Rodrygo and Brahim Diaz appear to be the only players available going forward with Vinicius Junior out injured for the next couple of months.

Amidst all this, Mauro Icardi was surprisingly linked with a move to Real Madrid over the last few days. Admittedly, he has been in top form since moving to Galatasaray.

But the door to Santiago Bernabeu does not seem to be open. As tweeted out by Guillermo Rai, Real Madrid have made it clear to Icardi’s agent that they are not interested in the player.

Icardi is a good striker without doubt but he simply does not fit Real Madrid’s current transfer policy. The club have signed veteran players only as free agents or on loan. Their main focus has been on bringing the most highly-rated youngsters to Santiago Bernabeu.

On the other hand, Icardi is 30 years of age. Also, while he might be having a good time at Galatasaray, the Argentine’s spell at PSG before that was viewed as a failure. Thus, there are question marks over whether he can deliver for a top European club.

It is much more likely that Real Madrid would try to sign one of the top young strikers in Europe in the future. It remains to be seen if they strengthen in January.
