Real Madrid’s search for Karim Benzema’s replacement continues, with the Frenchman leaving at the end of last season in order to join Al-Ittihad almost out of the blue. Rumours suggest that they will go for either Kylian Mbappe or Erling Halaand in the summer of 2024 as a possible Galactico signing.

The Mbappe transfer looks more feasible, as his contract expires at the end of this season. At the moment, the Frenchman signing a contract extension with Paris Saint-Germain does not seem very likely.

Of course, things can change in the Mbappe situation quickly. Real Madrid have learned that first-hand in recent years.

As a result, Real Madrid should keep the door open to alternatives. Halaand would certainly fit the bill of a Galactico, having inspired Manchester City to a treble in his debut campaign in England.

Haaland’s agent reacts to Real Madrid rumours

As reported by AS, Haaland’s agent, Rafaela Pimenta, told the media:

"“Will he sign for Madrid? You should ask Madrid that.”"

It is believed that Real Madrid maintain a firm interest in Halaand. The Norwegian forward’s contract with Manchester City expires in the summer of 2027.

There are rumours that a release clause will become active in his contract from the summer of 2025. Signing him at any point in the near future will be extremely difficult, even for Real Madrid.

He helped Manchester City win their maiden UEFA Champions League title in his debut season, a title they had been chasing for so many years. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he has scored 70 goals and provided 13 assists in 72 appearances for them so far.

With the number 9 shirt still vacant, Los Blancos would most probably go for a prominent goalscorer during the next summer transfer window. Few, if any, are better than Haaland in that regard. Signing the Norwegian feels pretty much impossible. But never say never in football, especially if you are Real Madrid.
