Real Madrid need to bring in reinforcements in several positions across the pitch. Centre-back has to be considered as one such position. Eder Militao tore his ACL in the very first match of the season, against Athletic Bilbao. It remains to be seen when he is back, but the Brazilian is expected to remain on the sidelines for the foreseeable future. It will also be interesting to see if an injury of that nature and magnitude end up having long-term effects on his game.

The club’s other three centre-backs are David Alaba, Nacho Fernandez and Antonio Rudiger. All of them are past 30 years of age.

So, Real Madrid could do with some strengthening at the back. Goncalo Inacio of Sporting CP is believed to be a centre-back they are keeping an eye on. They are not the only ones.

As reported by Defensa Central (via The Hard Tackle), Inacio has a release clause worth €60 million in his contract. While Newcastle United are ready to meet the required sum, Real Madrid will not pay €60 million to sign the Sporting CP defender.

Inacio is 22 years of age. He has been a key part of Sporting CP’s defence for a long time though and has already made almost 150 appearances for the club.

Inacio is also part of the Portugal national team picture now and has done well whenever given a chance. So, someone like him ticks a lot of boxes that Real Madrid look for when it comes to signing players.

That being said, it is hard to see Real Madrid meeting his €60 million release clause. There are other areas in the squad which are in need of reinforcements more urgently. So, let’s see if Los Blancos end up making a move for Inacio or not.
