It is no secret that Real Madrid need to find Karim Benzema’s long-term successor soon. The Frenchman left the club in the summer and Los Blancos filled his void by bringing in Joselu on loan from Espanyol for the season. To be fair to the Spaniard, he has done very well whenever given a chance. But most people recognise that the 33-year-old is a short-term solution. It looks like the 14-time European champions now have their sights on Arsenal’s top transfer target.

Arsenal are another club in search of a striker right now. Unfortunately for them, they seem to be facing heavy competition.

The player in question is none other than Ivan Toney. The Brentford striker is believed to be Arsenal’s top target when it comes to strengthening up top. But not only is there competition for his signature but also doubts over his future.

As reported by TEAMtalk, Toney could remain at Brentford next year despite interest from Chelsea, Arsenal and now Real Madrid. The striker is in no rush over his future.

Toney is considered arguably the best striker in the Premier League not playing for one of the top six sides. In his two seasons with Brentford in the English top flight, he has scored 32 goals. In the Championship the season before that, he scored 33 goals.

So, it is not hard to understand why top clubs might be interested in a striker as prolific as Toney. At 27 years of age, he is entering his prime and can be a difference-maker for many teams around Europe.

But if he is not looking to move then there are other options available. One can only hope that Real Madrid end up signing someone capable of leading the line for years to come.
