Real Madrid could sign Chelsea player for €25 million fee
Real Madrid found themselves in a sticky position before the season had even started. The squad depth has been questioned to begin with and Thibaut Courtois, arguably the best goalkeeper on the planet over the past several seasons, ended up tearing his ACL. It is unclear whether he will recover in time to feature in this campaign or not.
Real Madrid needed to make a quick decision with the season set to start. The club went out and brought in Kepa Arrizabalaga from Chelsea on a loan deal.
Kepa had joined Chelsea from Athletic Bilbao in the summer of 2018 for a world record €80 million fee. It is safe to say that things did not go as well for him in London as expected and many Real Madrid fans raised their eyebrows at the club signing the much-criticised Spaniard, even on loan.
Kepa has proven himself to be a solid goalkeeper for Real Madrid though. Their record has improved defensively this season and the Spaniard has certainly played his part in that. Naturally, there have been calls for the club to sign him on a permanent basis.
Real Madrid could sign Chelsea player for €25 million fee
As reported by Fichajes, journalist Eduardo Inda said on the El Chiringuito de Jugones program:
"“Real Madrid is thinking about hiring Kepa permanently. He has a contract with Chelsea until 2025 and it would cost about 25 million euros.”"
Kepa has certainly impressed with his displays while on loan at Real Madrid. Now, it remains to be seen if the club end up signing him on a permanent basis in the future.
It is worth pointing out that €25 million is a significant figure, especially with Real Madrid needing to strengthen in several other positions across the pitch. At the same time, there are serious doubts about how much playing time Kepa would receive when Courtois is fit.
On the other hand, Andriy Lunin is expected to leave the club next summer when his current deal expires. So, Los Blancos would need to sign another goalkeeper.
