Carlo Ancelotti’s future in the Real Madrid dugout remains uncertain. There has been all sorts of speculation about the Italian lately. Some suggest that he is set to leave at the end of his current deal to take up the Brazil national team job. Others claim that Los Blancos are looking to hand him a contract extension. Could all this lead to the return of Zinedine Zidane to Santiago Bernabeu?

Zidane left Real Madrid in the summer of 2021 and has remained out of management since then. It is not due to a lack of opportunities though. The Frenchman has been linked with some of the biggest teams in the world but seems to be waiting on the perfect opportunity.

If Ancelotti did end up leaving, Real Madrid would need to bring in a new manager. The likes of Xabi Alonso, Roberto De Zerbi and more have been linked with the club in recent months. But could a third spell for Zidane be on the cards as well?

As reported by Mundo Deportivo, Zidane has decided to return to the bench next season. He would be willing to go back to Real Madrid for the third time if Ancelotti did not renew. The Frenchman continues to maintain an excellent relationship with Florentino Perez.

Zidane’s stance on Real Madrid return emerges

Zidane has had two very successful spells as Real Madrid manager already. Of course, the highlight will forever be the Champions League threepeat, a feat that might never be repeated again. No other team has ever succeeded in winning the competition two straight times.

But even without the Champions League titles, Zidane has achieved plenty of success as Real Madrid manager. He has won La Liga, Supercopa de Espana, UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup twice each.

It also helps that he is one of the greatest players of all time. So if Ancelotti were to leave next summer, bringing back Zidane would be a popular decision.
