One position where Real Madrid must strengthen in the near future is right-back. Dani Carvajal is 31 years of age and has not been at his best for a while now. But the club do not have a genuine replacement for him. Lucas Vazquez serves as his cover option but he is 32 and a winger converted into a full-back.

Real Madrid have been linked with the likes of Reece James, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Achraf Hakimi and more in recent months. But it looks like they have some transfer targets closer to home as well.

One of them seems to be Sevilla’s Juanlu Sanchez. But Real Madrid are not the only club interested in the 20-year-old right-back.

As reported by Fichajes, Real Madrid are one of the clubs interested in signing Sanchez with the club looking for a long-term replacement for Carvajal. Newcastle United have now joined the race for the 20-year-old defender.

Sanchez is not a regular starter for Sevilla but he has been involved in the first-team picture. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he has made 14 appearances and provided 3 assists this season so far.

Sanchez has represented Spain at several youth international levels as well. And judging by the calibre of the clubs being linked with him, he certainly looks like a very bright prospect.

Someone like Sanchez would perfectly fit Real Madrid’s transfer policy. The club will have the chance to develop him under their watchful eye at Santiago Bernabeu.

There are areas where Sanchez clearly needs to improve further if he is to ever be a starter for a club like Real Madrid. Los Blancos’ recent record when it comes to developing and improving youngsters should fill everyone with confidence though.

Of course, Newcastle United are a team on an upward trajectory as well. So, they might be an attractive destination for the Spaniard as well.
