Real Madrid continue to win games despite the circumstances being completely against them. Their latest result was a 2-0 win over Granada, which meant that they maintained their top spot in the La Liga table. Girona are level on points with Carlo Ancelotti’s side and sit second. Atletico Madrid are third while FC Barcelona have slipped down to fourth.

Despite the positive results, Real Madrid’s fitness problems show no signs of ending. And they were handed a fresh worry in the game against Granada.

Dani Carvajal was substituted off at half-time, with Lucas Vazquez coming on in his place. The right-back has a potential calf injury and the extent of it remains to be determined.

The positive news is that initial feelings are that it is not serious. He will be evaluated soon. As reported by The Athletic, Ancelotti said about Carvajal’s situation:

"“Carvajal I think he has an overload. We will evaluate him tomorrow. It doesn’t seem to be serious.”"

Fortunately, there is a week before Real Madrid find themselves back in action. Their next game is against Real Betis away at Estadio Benito Villamarin.

Real Betis are looking to get back into the top 6 and an away game against them is always a tough test for any team in La Liga. Hopefully, Ancelotti’s side will pass with flying colours.

This Real Madrid team deserves a lot of credit. They have shown more heart and determination than many better teams over the years.

Just look at the situation they find themselves in. The squad’s lack of depth was a problem before the season even started. On top of that, players like Thibaut Courtois, Eder Militao, Vinicius Junior, Eduardo Camavinga, Aurelien Tchouameni and more are out injured.

Those are five regular starters for Real Madrid. Lesser teams would have let their shoulders drop and stopped delivering results a long time ago. That is not how Ancelotti’s team works.
