For a club the size of Real Madrid, they surprisingly aren't known for producing academy players that manage to break into the first team like we see with other clubs like Barcelona and Bayern Munich. However, over the last couple of years we have seen one of the most talented crop of Castilla players, with a number of them breaking into the first team, something that has been a breath of fresh air in a team that is usually filled with superstars brought in from other clubs.
However despite the amount of talent these youngsters have shown they unfortunately don't stick around for long and end up getting sold elsewhere, something we have seen a lot of in the last two summer transfer windows. With hindsight being the great thing it is Real Madrid could have benefited from keeping some of these youngsters, with these three sales potentially being sales Real Madrid will come to regret.
Real Madrid will be hoping these decisions don't come back to haunt them
Let's get the most recent one out of the way first, Gonzalo Garcia. Real Madrid confirmed last week the sale of Gonzalo to Fulham in a deal worth €40 million, a deal the club could soon come to regret. Now while the club still has Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius Jr in the team and did bring in Levante striker Carlos Espi, Gonzalo had already proven he has what it takes to play for a club the size of Real Madrid something Espi may struggle to adapt to. Real Madrid need that pure number nine in the team and that's exactly what Gonzalo was, almost a reincarnation of Raul, but now that he's gone, if Espi fails to reach the level needed at a club like Real Madrid, selling a player who has already shown he has what it takes could come to bite Real Madrid.
Next we have Nico Paz. The midfielder has joined Como on a permanent deal after two standout seasons on loan, and while Real Madrid already have players like Jude Bellingham and Arda Guler, Paz could have proven to be a useful player to Jose Mourinho. Real Madrid have struggled with creativity in the last couple seasons and off the back of winning Serie A midfielder of the season last season, Real could use his creativity but instead opted to stick with what they currently have and make a profit selling Paz. The Argentine seems destined for a move to a top club in the near future, and should Real come up against their old player, he could look to show them exactly what they're missing out on.
And finally we have one that Real Madrid could really come to regret should they miss out on Rodri, midfielder Chema Andres. The 21-year-old was sold to Stuttgart last summer and has snatched the opportunity given to him and is looking like he will develop into one of the top midfielders in Europe. Chema has a similar play style to Toni Kroos exactly what the team has been lacking which is why they were pushing so hard for Rodri, but now with Rodri set to join Barcelona, if Real had kept Chema, they wouldn't be panicking with only weeks left in the window to find the midfielder they need to fix the issues they have been having for the last two years.
