Real Madrid need to make big moves in the summer transfer window, and they are expected to be in the market for center midfielders and center backs as they look to shore up the key areas of weakness in a squad that has now gone trophy less for back to back seasons. But here are three star players Real need to avoid this summer.
Liverpool CB Ibrahima Konate
Although Ibrahima Konate can be signed for free, he comes with just as many red flags as Trent Alexander-Arnold did from Liverpool in terms of injuries with way fewer benefits when looking at his technical profile.
Konate is a good defender, but he hasn't been great in a while. Virgil van Dijk has carried him a bit this season, but even that really doesn't fully explain it since Liverpool have been disappointing as a whole. In a contract year, this was Konate's chance to prove himself to Real Madrid, but all he's done is prove he's not worth the wages and is not a better option than even Castello Lukeba from RB Leipzig.
Tottenham CB Micky van de Ven
But Konate would be much more preferable to Micky van de Ven, who is one of the biggest reasons why Tottenham Hotspur are staring down relegation. On paper, Van de Ven looks like a great player with his speed and athleticism, but like some of the players Real Madrid already have in their squad, Van de Ven is a once rising star who is only falling.
Too reliant on his athletic traits, Van de Ven has made very little progress as an actual footballer, and now teetering on the edge of the EFL Championship as a result of his own mistakes, the links to Real Madrid are, at this point, nothing more than agent driven.
Liverpool CM Alexis Mac Allister
There are a number of big names in the Premier League who suit Real Madrid in the middle of the park, but Alexis Mac Allister is, for sure, not one of them. The links to the Merengues are nothing new, but his box to box profile and disappointing 2025/26 season for the Reds make him an even less appealing option than the aging Rodri.
Real Madrid have better No. 8 profiles between Fede Valverde and Jude Bellingham, and with Liverpool themselves linked with Eduardo Camavinga as an upgrade on the very same Mac Allister, it really shows you how little sense it would make for Real Madrid to sign Mac Allister after such a dismal campaign at Anfield.
